[{"ID":51,"Title":"Equine Influenza - issued 15th February 2019","Text":"\u003cp\u003eScottish Endurance have noted the content of latest update [15.2.2019] from the Animal Health Trust, British Equestrian Federation and Horsescotland. \u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAs a Club we must be seen to play our part in trying to minimise the risk of equine flu spreading we therefore advise the following in relation to all Scottish Endurance events where our equine friends are present. \u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eScottish Endurance acknowledges that vaccinated horses can still contract equine flu but the effects/recovery time are generally much reduced in comparison to non-vaccinated horses.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eWith immediate effect and until further notice:\u003c/strong\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\u003cli\u003e \u003cstrong\u003eALL \u003c/strong\u003ehorses attending \u003cstrong\u003eMUST \u003c/strong\u003ecomply with the following Equine Flu vaccination rules\u003cul\u003e\u003c/ul\u003e\u003c/li\u003e\u003cli\u003eA primary course of two vaccinations between 21 and 92 days apart (3 weeks to 3 months).\u003c/li\u003e\u003cli\u003eA third vaccination within 7 months of the second vaccination.\u003c/li\u003e\u003cli\u003eThereafter boosters must be within a year.\u003c/li\u003e\u003cli\u003eHorses that have received the primary course can compete provided that the vaccine has not been given on the day of the competition or on any of the 6 days before the ride/event date\u003c/li\u003e\u003cli\u003eHorses can compete for up to 6 months + 21 days after the 2\u003csup\u003end\u003c/sup\u003e vaccination of the Primary Course, however they cannot compete if they have been vaccinated on the day of the event/ride or on any of the 6 days before the event/ride date.\u003c/li\u003e\u003cli\u003eIf it has been longer than 6 months since the last vaccination, we strongly recommend discussing a booster with your veterinary surgeon.\u003c/li\u003e\u003cli\u003eNone of the vaccinations must have been given on the day of an event in which the horse has been entered or on any of the 6 days before the event.\u003c/li\u003e\u003c/ul\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThere is an excellent “app” available both for IPhone and Android called – \u003cstrong\u003eequibiosafe – \u003c/strong\u003eonce downloaded onto your phone select the “Vaccine Checker” option from the list of contents, enter the vaccine dates to check compliance.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eUp to date information/signs and symptoms of equine flu can be viewed via the Animal Health Trust website: \u003ca href=\"https://www.aht.org.uk/news\"\u003ehttps://www.aht.org.uk/news\u003c/a\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOn arrival at the ride/event you must present the horse along with its passport and a visual check will be carried out to ensure the horse ID and vaccination compliance. \u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFailure to either present a passport or should non-compliance be show then the horse will not be allowed to take part in the ride/event with no refund of entry fees being given.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eAll owners are reminded of the following recommended bio security measures\u003c/strong\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\u003cli\u003e The equine flu virus is airborne and highly contagious\u003c/li\u003e\u003cli\u003e Avoid sharing water/feed buckets/troughs/grazing or contact with other horses\u003c/li\u003e\u003cli\u003e The risk of transmission of a disease whilst at a ride/event can be greatly reduced by competitors “keeping themselves and their horses to themselves” and avoiding direct and indirect contact with others.\u003c/li\u003e\u003cli\u003e If you are unfortunate enough to have a horse contract equine flu and have previously attended a Scottish Endurance ride/event then please let us know so that other attendees can be notified\u003c/li\u003e\u003cli\u003e Cleanliness and hygiene are very important – vehicles should be cleaned and disinfected frequently and regularly, using approved disinfectants capable of killing bacteria and viruses\u003c/li\u003e\u003cli\u003e Monitor your horse for any symptoms which may be a sign of influenza\u003c/li\u003e\u003c/ul\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e·\u0026nbsp; Owners are reminded that any contact with recently imported horses represents an increased risk so owners should follow veterinary advice by isolating any recently imported horse for a period of 21 days.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e·\u0026nbsp;
